Pulmonary Function Test (Spirometry)

Spirometry measures lung capacity and the speed at which air can be inhaled and exhaled. A valuable diagnostic tool for respiratory conditions.

What We Offer

  • Measures total lung capacity (FVC)
  • Evaluates airflow (FEV1)
  • Diagnoses asthma, COPD, and ILD
  • Monitors disease progression
  • Pre-operative fitness assessment

Indications

  • Diagnosis of lung disease
  • Assessing disease severity
  • Fitness for surgery
  • Monitoring smokers
  • Occupational exposure assessment

Allergy Testing

Diagnostic procedure to identify specific allergens that trigger allergic reactions, enabling appropriate management strategies.

What We Offer

  • Skin prick testing
  • Multiple allergen screening
  • Pollen, dust mites, pet dander testing
  • Food allergen identification
  • Pain-free and quick results

Indications

  • Chronic sneezing or runny nose
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Skin rashes
  • Asthma triggers identification
  • Food allergy concerns

Bronchoscopy

Medical procedure to examine airways and lungs using a thin, flexible tube with camera for diagnosis and treatment.

What We Offer

  • Diagnostic bronchoscopy
  • Therapeutic interventions
  • Tissue and fluid sampling
  • Foreign body removal
  • Airway stent placement

Indications

  • Persistent cough
  • Abnormal chest X-ray
  • Lung infections
  • Suspected lung cancer
  • Airway blockages

Sleep Study (Polysomnography)

Comprehensive test to diagnose sleep disorders by monitoring physiological parameters during sleep.

What We Offer

  • Home or hospital-based testing
  • Brain, eye, and muscle monitoring
  • Heart and breathing assessment
  • Blood oxygen level tracking
  • Sleep stage analysis

Indications

  • Loud snoring
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Sleep apnea symptoms
  • Insomnia
  • Restless legs syndrome

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

Minimally invasive procedure combining bronchoscopy with ultrasound to visualize and sample lung structures and lymph nodes.

What We Offer

  • Real-time ultrasound imaging
  • Lymph node sampling (TBNA)
  • Lung cancer staging
  • TB and sarcoidosis diagnosis
  • Guided tissue biopsy

Indications

  • Tuberculosis diagnosis
  • Sarcoidosis evaluation
  • Lung cancer staging
  • Enlarged lymph nodes
  • Mediastinal masses

Medical Thoracoscopy

Minimally invasive procedure to visualize and evaluate the pleural space for diagnosis and treatment of pleural conditions.

What We Offer

  • Direct pleural visualization
  • Pleural biopsy
  • Pleurodesis procedure
  • Local anesthesia with sedation
  • High-resolution imaging

Indications

  • Pleural effusion
  • Pleural malignancy
  • Empyema evaluation
  • Unexplained pleural disease
  • Therapeutic drainage

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between asthma and COPD?

Asthma is typically allergic, reversible, and often starts in childhood with symptoms that come and go. COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is usually caused by smoking, is progressive and irreversible, typically starting after age 40. Both cause breathing difficulties but require different treatment approaches. Dr. Hemil Jasani can accurately diagnose and treat both conditions.

What is a sleep study and why might I need one?

A sleep study (polysomnography) monitors your sleep patterns, breathing, oxygen levels, and heart rate overnight. You might need one if you snore loudly, feel excessively tired during the day, have witnessed breathing pauses during sleep, or wake up gasping. It helps diagnose sleep apnea and other sleep disorders.

What causes breathing problems and shortness of breath?

Breathing problems can be caused by asthma, COPD, allergies, lung infections, heart conditions, anxiety, obesity, or anemia. Persistent shortness of breath should be evaluated with pulmonary function tests (spirometry) to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.

How is bronchoscopy performed and is it painful?

Bronchoscopy is performed using a thin, flexible tube with a camera to examine your airways. The procedure is done under local anesthesia with sedation, so you won't feel pain. It takes about 30-60 minutes and helps diagnose lung infections, tumors, and other conditions. Most patients go home the same day.

What are the symptoms of sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea symptoms include loud snoring, witnessed breathing pauses during sleep, gasping or choking at night, morning headaches, excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and dry mouth upon waking. Untreated sleep apnea increases risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
